What Virginia Beach Offers To Tourists
Photo Gallery of Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach is a family-friendly beach town with low-key, affordable attractions. According to US News, it has the sixth best beach in Virginia and is one of the top 10 places to visit in Virginia. While the beach is attractive, there are others things to do besides build sandcastles and swim in the ocean. The best time to visit is from late May to early September but there are things to do year-round. Whether you’re traveling with your family or taking a day trip yourself, Virginia Beach has something that will make your vacation memorable.
Yearly Festivals and Events
If you choose to visit between May and September, you’ll have the chance to listen to the summer concerts sprinkled throughout the summer months. The Jackalope Festival is also held in May and features skateboarding and skimboarding competitions accompanied by live music. If you choose not to go during the peak season, there are still festivals to attend. The ten-day long Mural Festival in October shows off ten new murals on the city’s walls. Outdoor Christmas lights shine during November through December.
Year-Round Activities
When a festival isn’t going on, you can visit several locations and participate in the other leisure activities. The Virginia Beach Boardwalk offers a stellar view of the ocean, where people can walk or rent bicycles and view the rolling waves. A famous sight on the boardwalk is the King Neptune Statue, which stands at 34 feet tall at the corner of 31st Street. Business Traveller suggests the Rudee Inlet for fishing trips, dolphin cruises and boat tours for those who want to be on the water. History lovers will enjoy Cape Henry Lighthouse, which was completed in 1792 and marks one of the earliest landing points of English settlers. There are also a variety of shops and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center.
Places To Eat and Drink
A day in the water or walking the streets will make anyone hungry. Luckily, restaurants and diners provide tasty treats to satisfy your hunger. Coffee aficionados will want to indulge in Java Surf’s specialty lattes, as well as their brunch and breakfast options. Waterman’s Surfside Grille serves fresh seafood and Chix on the Beach is an oceanfront restaurant that has been around for 40 years. Those who don't eat seafood may dine at Becca Restaurant & Garden, which offers a variety of dishes such as panini and burgers.
Virginia Beach holds an array of events and attractions for those who wish to relax on vacation. From boat tours to seafood dinners to annual festivals, there are plenty of ways to make memories and have fun at Virginia Beach.
